2023 has been another successful year for the team at ROCC. Business continues to flourish and we have been delighted with the progress we have made as an organisation amid some very challenging times for the country.

However, as the ROCC team and our customers continue to navigate the cost of living crisis and ongoing economic difficulties, it’s our work away from the day-to-day operations that has filled us with the most pride.

As an organisation, we take our values very seriously, and at the heart of this is our commitment to the local communities we serve. We know we’re only as strong as the communities we build, which is why we always support good causes locally and around the country.

This year has been no different and we have ramped up our efforts to support as many different causes and charities as possible.

Spreading festive cheer: Two rewarding new partnerships

While Christmas is a time of happiness and joy for many, it can be a difficult period for others. That’s why, this Christmas, we’ve partnered with two additional charitable initiatives to help spread the festive cheer and support those in need.

The Clock Tower Sanctuary

ROCC is proud to be supporting The Clock Tower Sanctuary in their Christmas appeal to keep the sanctuary open and help young homeless people in the Brighton and Hove area.

As the only drop-in day centre in Brighton for 16-to-25-year-olds who are experiencing homelessness, The Clock Tower Sanctuary provide practical and emotional support to help young people move from crisis to stability.

They provide hot lunches throughout the week and access to their centre is available daily for young people experiencing street homelessness or rough sleeping. At the centre, people can use the shower and laundry facilities or take part in daily classes and activities. They also offer food parcels.

We’ve joined forces with The Clock Tower Sanctuary to help raise the £20,413 that’s needed to run their drop-in centre during the lead-up to Christmas. Together, we aim to ensure the centre stays open this festive period, continuing to provide a lifeline to young homeless people in the local community.

Circus Starr

Shockingly, 1.5 million UK families cannot afford a single day out together. This has been exacerbated this year as a result of the cost of living crisis, which has had a massive financial impact on families across the country.

We believe everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy themselves this Christmas, which is why we’ve partnered with the wonderful team at Circus Starr. With our support, young people and their carers can get a much-needed and deserved day out at an exciting, inclusive, non-judgmental and most importantly magical circus performance.

Circus Starr caters to children with disabilities, families on low incomes, and those facing challenges such as domestic violence, grief or who may be living with a life-limiting condition.

Sadly, 50% of families with disabled children say that the stigma and discrimination they face make them feel isolated, which is one of the reasons why we believe the good work done by Circus Starr is so crucial. Every child, whoever they are, is free to be themselves.

You can help vulnerable children make memories that last a lifetime by donating here.

Celebrating a year of giving

Not only have we been adding to the list of charitable initiatives we support this Christmas, but we’ve also added several new local and national charities to our growing list of social partners in 2023. Two of these initiatives include YMCA DownsLink Group and The Wave Project, both of which are close to our heart because they’re focused on improving the lives of young people in our local area.

  • YMCA DownsLink Group This charity strives to prevent youth homelessness across the counties of Sussex and Surrey. They do this by providing accommodation for 750+ young people who are either homeless or at risk of homelessness.
  • The Wave Project – Working with young people in Sussex since 2015, The Wave Project now runs six Surf Therapy courses each year and also operates a Surf Club. During this time, they have helped hundreds of young people from the local area who need support with their mental health.

The team at ROCC has relished partnering with both the YMCA DownsLink Group and The Wave Project this year, and can’t wait to see how the funding will continue to be used by both initiatives to help change the lives of young people in 2024.

Looking ahead to the future

At ROCC, our mission is to continue using our passion for supporting and helping people to embark on new partnerships with local charities and businesses. We plan on honouring this commitment again next year and look forward to coming up with new innovative ways to make a positive impact.

Peter Luck, Business Operations Director, ROCC: “I couldn’t be more pleased that we’re lending our support to The Clock Tower Sanctuary and Circus Starr this Christmas. It’s critically important that successful organisations like ours give back to those less fortunate and use our success to improve the lives of people local to our business, team and customers.

“I hope by supporting both of these wonderful initiatives we’ll be able to help bring safety, support and a bit of joy to many young people this Christmas.”
